Andrea Cleveland
Ballet, Modern & Jazz Teacher
Andrea Cleveland, Choreographer, Author and Personal Life Coach is a native of Brooklyn, New
York.

Andrea began studying dance at the age of 7, under the direction of Cynthia Harley at Miss
Harley's Dance School in Brooklyn, New York.  After studying with Ms. Harley, Andrea majored in
Dance at Philippa Schyler Middle School for the Gifted and Talented where she got her first taste
of the stage. During her early years, Andrea didn't think of herself as a dancer and the revelation
came when her godmother took her to see the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.  Andrea was
mesmerized by the artistic form and precision of the dancers. It was then that she decided to take
dance seriously.

Since then, Andrea has studied Modern, Jazz and African dance. She trained extensively in the
Horton Technique of Modern dance (named after the world-renowned dancer, Lester Horton) at
Peridance International Dance Center. Andrea has also studied Afro-Jazz and the Horton
Technique at The Ailey School and Cuban Folklore Dance at Djoniba Dance and Drum Centre.

Andrea soon took her dance career with her to Cornell University where she earned a Bachelors of
Science Degree in Human Development and a minor in Africana Studies and Dance. While
attending Cornell, Andrea was invited to perform with the student dance organization Uhuru
Kuumba Dance Ensemble (Freedom to Create), which she has choreographed numerous dances
for the annual concert.

Andrea was the Co-Founder/Choreographer for Visions of Virtue Praise Dance Ministry. During the
summer of 2000, Andrea received the opportunity to teach at The Ailey Camp in Washington
Heights, New York.

Upon graduation, Andrea became a New York City Certified Public School teacher.  As a teacher,
her love for dance continued and led to the founding of an after-school dance program, “Dancing
On the Ceiling” (D.O.C).
